(REDRAFT #2) plot summary

Unfortunately one of our female characters were unable to commit to the recording times and therefore was dropped. We then however found a new female actress that would also fit our profile and a male. However we changed our narrative and story line. Before our story line was a bit too vague as we realised it was not specific enough to the narrative, it was more for entertainment and trying to impress the audience.

Myself and Stephnie decided to come from a new approach of using a set theme for the blind date. The song choice 'Jade:Don't walk away' is a 90's classic, we thought of continuity in our planning. The continuity will consist of a 90's theme basing our narrative around the classic blind date reality show where three contestants are interviewed by a potential date. The contestant that suits the interviewer by answering questions gets the date and win a date to a special place wherever the show decides to send them.

We have remixed the classic blind date show to a more modern version. We have our male protagonist date all three to see who he prefers the most. However to not seem to repetitive we decided it would be best to only view two dates instead if all three.

Research on JADE

Jade was originally named JAD, after two of the members where removed from the group two more were added with only one original singer left. The group changed there name after that to JADE. They were signed to a record label called 'Giant Records' with their producer Vassall Brenford.

There first successful record in 1992 'I wanna love you' helped to lead the way for 'Don't walk away' which topped #2 on the R'n'B charts. After their first album, the girls became co-writers and co-producers for their second album.

In 1994 they later released a film, however after this the group split up.

Conventions of New Jack Swing

New Jack Swing is a genre that combinds many elements to form one genre in it's self. New Jack Swing artists are formally black producing blues, R & B and dance-pop together. This was first created and invented in the late 1980's/early 1990's. It became revolutionary to provide a new type of contemporary urban R & B. The type of instruments usually used was the drum machine amongst synthesisers and keyboards to create the new epidemic.

The term was created by writer-filmmaker Barry Michael Cooper. Although this new genre became adapted by many artists, Rap artists refused to associated themselves with New Jack Swing arguing the clash of those who are hard and those who are soft. New Jack Swing became a catalyst for speeding up the Rap period as many artists started to produce a lot of rap to out do the New Swing Jack artists.

My band follows the conventions of New Jack Swing as it is a mixture of R & B, dance-pop using keyboards for instruments and a drum machine. Our message in our lyrics are not harsh they are soft where you have to read between the line. Also our artists are black, with a soulful singing.

First choice for girl #1

The character profile for the girls are too be feminine with a quirky modern/retro/contemporary style. They must also be attractive and have a close bond and relationship. Must be flexible and confident.

Stephnie Mathurin was first choice as she is also co-director, co-producer and co-writer I know how well she works, she fits the profile and would have a good understanding of how to act and what to do.

First choice for girl #2

Was myself as I fit the same profile expectations as Stephnie being one of the directors, producers and writer. I am also confident and would know how I want the video to be acted.

First choice for girl #3

My friend Leanne was asked by my team as she fits all the specifications necessary for the profile. She was also highly enthusiastic with a good understanding of the song content and knew a lot about 90's music also.

Unfortunately we have not found a male to fit our specific needs and profile yet.

Storyboard

First planning

I began to draft ideas for our music video to 'Jade: Don't walk away'. Myself and Stephnie both agreed.

We decided that a necessity would be that our music video must:

• Have a performance (dancing and solo lip-synching)
• follow the narrative/plot

I discovered after the phone intro there are two clear counts four times. This could be used in our on beat cutting. Each two counts could be some sort of introduction to the female protagonists through their body parts. For example the first two counts could be panning of the eyes on girl one, panning on the hands on girl 2 and panning of the lips on girl 3 between cuts an idea could be a cross fade.

We began planning many ideas for angles, editing techniques and who would be doing each verses.

I will be doing the first verse whilst Stephnie does the second verse. No one will be singing the chorus or bridge.
