Editing training lesson 1

We learned how to import and upload our music on Film Cut Express where we then rendered it and began editing and cutting to the beat through instinct for an idea or where we may import footage.

First day filming behind scene footage

For evidence of our first day filming we decided to film some behind scene footage with a few bloopers. There where a few things that went wrong or changed throughout our filming, but it mostly stayed consistent to our planning.

We also filmed characters behind scene of how they think it went, then went back to the characters as actors and questioned them of what they think of their characters.

First day filming

On the first day filming we decided to begin the opening scene and introduction to our blind date theme. We began setting up our set and designing it to replicate the original blind date scene. We filmed from lots of various angles and shots to give a variety of effects. The lighting we used were house lights for the back ground lighting, a spot light for key lighting on the presenter and fillers. There were no main key lighting for the rest of the characters as we wanted to keep it neutral. We had a few lighting complications as we couldn't decide whether to dim the background completely or have a bright lighting etc.

Second castings

Both myself and Stephnie have remained in the group, however our friend Leanne the last girl member for our group unfortunately cannot carry on as she has a lot of work to do with college and can't take time out to film. This was a big disadvantage for us, however we were lucky to find quick replacements.

Replacement girl #1

Sheraine Wright fits the profile as she has a very versatile look that can be moulded to different archetypes when we decide to characterise people.

We also found a male that fits our profile. He is tall, quite handsome and can be 'swaggered' in many different ways. His name is Daniel McNab. He is the right age (18) and is open to do many different things in our music video. Has lots of free time and can also be available and reliable.

Light training

We had a training session at college in our TV studio that helped to teach us lots of different lighting methods we can use in our filming.

We learned about:

• Three point lighting (back light, key light, fillers)
• Four point lighting (back light, key light, fillers and background lighting
• Using the lighting box
• putting on gels to create different colours

We also learned how to create different themes and moods such as:

• An interview
• Integration
• Day time tv
• How to hide some ones identity
• How to use colour gels to create different effects
• and many more

This helped us and for our solos on our verses we could use some of these methods to portray a specific look such as an everlasting white background have the protagonists as the only main key subject viewed.

Location

Bedroom: We plan to use the bedroom as an introduction to our music video. This will initially set the scene, introduce the song, band and narrative. The audience will see the girls having fun in the bedroom doing lots of girly stuff, for example getting dressed, dancing, laying on the bed with the laptop etc. This will also help our target audience relate to the band as the protagonist will be stereotypically portraying teenage females on a normal day doing day to day activities.

Front room: Instead of the bed room we could also use the front room/living room to show what the characters are up to as both locations show a relaxed environment which not only teenagers but all ages can identify with.

The Multifunctional hall: In our school we have the multifunctional hall which is often used for drama performances with stairs that invert into a wall, a stage, a lighting box plus many props. This can be used for our blind date scene. We can use lots of different lighting via the lighting box and create a divider between the girls and the boy characters on the blind date show. We could also create a false audience with the ascending seats on the opposite side. There are many curtains and backdrops and even use a cyclorama.

Fun/fair: An idea here could be to watch the male protagonist play football whilst the female protagonists stalk the male or two girls spy on the male protagonist on a date with one of the three main girls. The reason for this location would be that it is easy as there are many parks around our areas, there are mostly isolated which would be an advantage. A funfair is also optional if there is one available as it would have a different atmosphere, again the audience would be able to identify with this location.

TV Studio: We could use our TV studio for any lip-syncing solo's. Also an idea could be if we decided to try and imitate a cinema effect. Within the TV studio the lights can be played with like the multifunctional hall. It is easily accessible, and the idea of the cinema again is the idea that teenagers in their spare time often go to the cinema. This shows my target audience are some what cultured and like to go out to be entertained.

Staircase: There is a staircase within my school that would look great to have a solo lip-syncing part be filmed there for a dramatic effect and also be apart of our performance.

Retail shop: Teenagers are known for being window shoppers, always in the latest trends and that is also the type of audience we are aiming for. This would be great to see the male and one of the females on a date shopping whilst the other two main female characters follow the couple on a date. This can be manipulated as the following females could pretend to be mannequins etc which will bring the element of comedy in play.
