Character profiling

We used one of Jennifer Lopez's videos as an inspiration to brand our characters through different stereo types.

In "Get Right" by JLo the audience sees three different stereotypical females.

The Bad Girl (India Hosten-Hughes)
Through the style of clothing we have stereotyped this character to represent a "thug" like female. The J-Lo picture shows the character wearing round thick gold earrings with a bandana on folded around her head. Stereotypically "ghetto" people carry this type of dress code; it informs and identifies the audience what kind of person the character is, their attitude and how they carry themselves. Usually characters seen like this are quite rude, loud and uneducated. We have used this type of character as it is a well known character that many people can identify with either by seeing someone that or actual know someone similar. The wooly hat is identify who the character is by a specific object. The wooly hat is iconic and connotes those who are "gangster."

The Nerd
(Sheraine Wright)
Reading glasses is an iconic stereotype to identifying those who are rather intellegent and perhaps not the most popular. The character is meant to represent the "geek" group with the sinus problems, a tissue with an awkward air about them. This is also quite a comical character that most can associate with.

The Diva (Stephnie Mathurin)
The dark celebrity glasses portray the view of someone quite famous. This character that we have created is not actually a "someone" as she would like to be but rather is trying to be. She believes she is better than everyone else which is why she is the "Diva."  Her clothes are of the latest and most known labels in the fashion world. Her body language is usually quite enclosed and the dark glasses could connote that she maybe isn't that confident and is hiding behind them. The glasses represent her personality.

These are also the final casts. The Bad Girl is branded by her distinctive hat as in as the Diva is known by her glasses. We created these stereotypes to show diversity and it is also quite comical as well. Each character is wearing a prop that signifies who they are and what they represent so that the audience do not have to try to figure out what they are about but from their first judgement, we would like them to stereotype the characters so that we follow the popular conventions of a storyline.

Programmes

BET and MTV Base are both channels that will view our music videos and promote our music. Both channels show both R'n'B, Hip Hop, some pop, New Swing Jack etc. My band contain black people and although our target audience are aimed at a wide variety and is not colour specified it may be subject that my group may attract more of a black audience due to the type of music my band has greated (the song that we have chosen). Artists such as SWV, Salt and Peppa, Bobby Brown and others that once greated New Swing Jack music videos are all seen on these channels.

Audience research

Our target audience primarily is aimed at teenagers from the ages of 14-18. We aim to get their attention by associating the song and visual narrative to a stereotype theory of teenage girls between the ages of 14-18. I have researched and from my own primary knowledge that young women between these ages have strong interests in music and the opposite sex; they tend to be in to the latest fashion and gossip. Girls at this age are supposed to still be quite young and innocent whoever growing and evolving into mature women therefore the narrative can not be too young but not to mature. We intend to reach out to wider audience to reach beyond our target audience, especially those that were around in the 90's can definitely identify with some of the themes and ideas we have imported into our music video such as our blind date.

I decided to interview a few people that are my target audience with a few questions as secondary research was good however I wanted to make sure myself that my theory of my target audiences wants and needs were met accurately.

Here are some questions I had created for one of my interviewees.
1) What is your name?
2) How old are you?
3) What's your favourite hobby?
4) What genre music do you like?
5) What would you say you do most in your spare time?
6) What is the most memorable music video you have seen?
7) Do you watch many music videos?
8) What would you say you like best in music videos? (any examples)

Renee is a prime example of our target audience, she is the right age and has a wide variety of music she likes. She watches music videos all the time and is mostly interested in the entertainment and talent shown within the music videos rather than the narrative. Although she was not interviewed about her style of clothing, I know that she is into the american contemporary fashion of skinny jeans and high top trainers and likes to be very colourful. Her favourite band at the moment are 'The Rangers' and 'New Boyz' which are both 'Jerking Crews' She admits that she prefers to see talent and entertainment in her videos.

I have also asked a Shaquille who is 17 years old. These are the questions I have asked him:
1) How old are you?
2) Where do you live?
3) Are you in full time education?
4) What is your favourite type of music?
5) Do you like other music genres? (such as)
6) Do you watch music videos?
7) What would make a good music video?
8) What do you do in your spare time?
9) What type of fashion are you into?
10) Do you watch films?
11) Whats your favourite tv programme?

Shaquille is a prime example of the type of audience we are trying to reach out to who is also into the narrative of a music video. He is interested in to mature films such as Baby Boy which as an adult film however although he enjoys a mature entertainment he still enjoys the innocence and fun of children movies such as the Lion King. He is into fashion and understands the different types of fashion etc.
Both Interviewees have a clear concept of modern and old school music, both are into

Editing training lesson 1

We learned how to import and upload our music on Film Cut Express where we then rendered it and began editing and cutting to the beat through instinct for an idea or where we may import footage.

Permission

I have sent an email to Warner Bros. Music record asking for their permission to use their song.

First day filming behind scene footage

For evidence of our first day filming we decided to film some behind scene footage with a few bloopers. There where a few things that went wrong or changed throughout our filming, but it mostly stayed consistent to our planning.

We also filmed characters behind scene of how they think it went, then went back to the characters as actors and questioned them of what they think of their characters.
